Building a Tool Cabinet

Here is the introduction video to the new series on building this tool cabinet. The drawing is the outline but there are many hidden details too many to list that are designed specifically for training. Here is the brief intro:

For years now people have asked me for a video series on building a version of my tool cabinet, the one behind me on woodworkingmasterclasses and of course the one you see in my blog the days when I write. I must say that the different places I keep my tools have become favourites to me and important to my sense of wellbeing. I am glad I built the boxes chests and cabinets and they are well used. I made them when I taught in the USA over the years starting back in the 1980s when I migrated there and they keep order to everything I use because even though technically I am not a collector but a user, inevitably I buy tools that many might consider collector tools. When I see something that's lovely and befitting saving from a rusted grease pit at a car boot sale or flea market I lift it from its demised and despised condition and find a place in the cupboards and shelves surrounding my creative workspace. This is real woodworking for me and my wellbeing is preserved here too.

The basic concepts used for this cupboard can be adapted readily and it is scaleable to suit other spaces and needs. When I first built this cupboard I had space to spare and today every nook and cranny is filled with everything from tool steel for making tools to spare parts for planes and much more. When people come to classes who follow woodworking masterclasses they usually stop at the door to soak in what they have seen only on video until that point. Whoa! Is a common response inside the doorways, as they see everything they have seen so many times before but now it's somehow real.

We just completed building a collapsable assembly table. Not perhaps what everyone wants but the methods we used are unusual and can be made into a collapsable picnic table for a deck or patio or a kingsize bed. The joint is an amazing simplicity.
