Welcome 2012, New Legacy New York and the RWC

Standing in the queues at Manchester airport reminds me that this world is not really my home. The airport conveyor belt begins when you wait for quality control to certify the quality of your life and then you pass through the various checks along the way to make sure you measure up to being a law abiding world citizen.  Smile at the questioners along the way as the do their job and tell me what I can do and what I must do along the way. My passage smoothness depends on the answers I give and how I give. I am amazed that people are so very helpful in general and especially in such a thankless job too. "Have a nice flight Mr Sellers!" The man cheers me on my way and the repeats the exact same questions to the next people on the conveyor belt.

I am looking forward to the next three weeks even though I already miss my family. My friends in the US mean a lot to me and having invested over 20 years teaching and training here I feel as much an affinity here as I do within my native country.

As we launch New York's first New Legacy School of Woodworking we also launch the Real Woodworking Campaign in tandem too. RWC will be an official entity in its own right soon and many of you first 150 that signed in to support it will be the contributing members that will be defining many aspects of where it goes from here - how it grows  and what it sows. We'll be starting a whole range of support structures like training courses and guilds, online broadcast, forums and blogs and much more. Above all, we will be completely independent; not merely sponsored by commerce but by insightful individuals who care about the future of woodworking and woodworkers around the globe. Our emagazine will be written by you and me and that means we will not be relying on two-thirds advertising and other kinds of controlling influences so much as really doing what it takes to work the stuff and substance of wood.

Keep signing in, following us and supporting us if this is of interest to you. Our future success depends on your concern and together we can make changes positive for the future of woodworkers today and those yet to be born.

New Legacy School of Woodworking in New York

Well, it's really happening. We start some very intensive training straight off the bat that will parallel the amazing work everyone has already done to get the school up and running. The team will meet over the next few days and weeks while I am here and we have a great deal to do to accomplish our goals. For instance we are at the moment making ready for our booth at for our first woodworking presentation at the Woodworking Shows show in Baltimore MD starting this Friday with Masterclasses scheduled throughout the day. This is my first opportunity to teach here in the eastern states and so I am really looking forward to meeting as many of you as I can. We have other shows booked with Masterclasses too so check out The Woodworking Shows website for current information soon. Also, our booth number at the show will be #112, so please stop by and meet myself or Tom Bowden and we wcan show some of what we will be doing with the New Legacy School of Woodworking over the next few weeks and months.
